A quiet drink alone

Discovering a whole new reason to love Browns Hotel wasn’t how it started.  I’d arranged to meet somebody to discuss plans for future Girl Thursday event collaborations.  Forty – yes, forty – minutes later I was still on my own, patiently waiting.  In fairness, I had by this time had a phone call saying that the chap in question was around the corner.  That was one heck of a corner.

The age of the train

Remember the scene in ‘Some Like It Hot’ when Lemmon and Curtis are first mesmerised by Marilyn Monroe? Her wiggle down the railway platform, just about missing the jet of steam from the train that is perfectly aimed at her perfect derrière.  An image that seems to have absolutely no relationship to modern train travel – and yet….
